Congratulations to KA9CFD I received a note from Jay, KA9CFD, that said he has applied for his ARRL Diamond DXCC award with 150 countries. Jay has set the bar very high this year, it will take some work to catch Jay, but it can be done. We still have not had any major DX contests this year and propagation will make it easier to work DX than it has in the past few years.Great job Jay! December 13 meetingWe had a great turnout at the Great River DX get together on December 31 in Quincy, thank you to all those that took the time from the holiday weekend to attend. The winner of the 2011 GRDX Challenge was named and presented with a new ARRL Amateur Radio Handbook, compliments of Lew Gordon, K4VX, Congratutlations to Jay, KA9CFD, for leading all comers with 253 countries worked during 2011! Besides recognizing Jay's accomplishment this past year (and eating too much goood food), we also decided to use the ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge as the GRDX operating challenge this year. The ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge is an award based on working the same countries that were available to to be worked work in 1937 (or at least as close as can be done today). The rules and country list can be found on the ARRL site. Again, for the GRDX Chellenge, this Challenge runs from January 1st through December 31. No QSL cards are needed, just periodically send your totals to the GRDX email reflector or to ng9r@ng9r.com and I will add them to the standing on the GRDX Challenge page. ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge GRDX Members! The Great River DX group will meet 11:30 AM, Saturday December 31 at Sprouts Inn in Quincy. Sprouts is located at 12th and Koch's Lane on the north side of Quincy. Besides the usuall story telling, we will dicuss doing the ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge as our DX activity this year. More information and a link to the rules can be found here Please look over this unique operating event so we can discuss it when we meet. The NG9R-1 DX Spider node has went offline and has been replaced with NG9R, a CC Cluster node. Please start using NG9R rather than NG9R-1 and let me know if you have any problems or notice any differences. The changes viewed by users is very small, most notably the grid database is updated weekely from a global database and duplicate posts are filtered out before they get to you. The biggest changes between the DX Spider software and CC Cluster is related to sysop duties. NG9R can be reached at ng9r.homeip.net:23 (port 23). The GRDX standings and DX News have been updated (12/24/2011) At the November meetingIn case you were not there, the Great River DX group had another lunch meeting, this time at Fiddlesticks in Hannibal, on November 6, 2011. It was well attended, good friends, good food and good discussions. Everyone attending had a good time. The only real business was a discussion lead by CLiff, K0CA, of an operating event to get more on the air activity members. Cliff suggested we do a DXCC Challenge in 2011, The idea took aff and we set a few rules about how it would be done. You can see more on the GRDX Challenge page. News : K0CA appointed ARRL Midwest DirectorSaturday January 16, 2010 Cliff Ahrens, K0CA, was recenlty appointed Director of the ARRL Midwest Division. Cliff has been serving as Vice-Director and the move up probably means even less time for Cliff to enjoy time in the shack chasing DX. Join me in offering congratulations to Cliff and please offer him your support. The full story can be read here Lew Gordon, K4VX, receives his Honor Roll Plaque |
